ABOUT

Paul Haslinger is an Austrian-American Grammy- and Emmy-nominated composer and performing artist, known for seamlessly blending acoustic and electronic music. Classically trained in Vienna, he joined the pioneering electronic group Tangerine Dream at 23, contributing to acclaimed albums and film scores such as Underwater Sunlight, Miracle Mile, and Near Dark.

In the 1990s, Paul moved to Los Angeles, shifting his focus toward film while continuing to release records. He worked as a programmer for Graeme Revell, contributing to scores for Chinese Box, The Negotiator, and The Siege. During this time, he expanded his circle of collaborators, forming long-standing creative relationships with artists such as Lustmord, Robert Rich, Jon Hassell, Nona Hendryx, and Sussan Deyhim.

Paul’s breakthrough as a composer came in 2003 with Underworld, where he combined orchestral, electronic, and industrial elements with a hands-on production approach. As one of the first composers to fully embrace computer-based scoring—now an industry standard—he built a thriving career across film, television, and video games, with credits including Shoot 'Em Up, Vacancy, Death Race, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Sleeper Cell, Halt and Catch Fire, and Fear the Walking Dead.

After two decades of exclusive scoring work, Paul reconnected with his musical roots through solo projects and collaborations. His 2020 album Exit Ghost received critical acclaim, followed by the Neuland project with Tangerine Dream alumnus Peter Baumann. He is currently working on an Americana project with Marissa Nadler and Milky Burgess, with a tentative first release planned for 2026. His music has also been widely licensed, including for Minority Report, The Italian Job, Prison Break, and the recent Vincent Van Gogh Expo.

Beyond composition, Paul has long-standing ties to the music technology world, inspired by friendships with synth pioneers Bob Moog, Tom Oberheim, and Dave Smith. In 2023, he co-founded 10 Phantom Rooms with Tobias Menguser, developing virtual instruments designed to enhance hands-on performance.

Looking ahead, Paul will continue to work across disciplines, pushing creative boundaries and challenging conventions. The pursuit of new ground remains central to his artistic vision.
